Frequently Asked Questions
I'm having trouble uploading my profile picture. What could be the problem?
Pictures are limited to a maximum file size of 500KB. If you are trying to upload a print quality picture, it will time out before it can be loaded. If you compress the picture to a web quality smaller file, it should upload just fine.
How do I get my students signed up?
If your students are under 18, they will need a parent to sign them up.
Is my profile available to the public?
Yes, your profile is available to the public; however, you have the option to indicate if you are accepting new students or not. This way, your current students can still find you to link with you, but new students will not be able to request lessons.
What if I just want student referrals?
If that is all you are looking for, you can certainly use only the referral function. We now have an "Online" lessons option, so you can attract students from anywhere for lessons over Skype or some other video chat tool.
I own/manage a music store or school. Can I use LessonSpark.com for my teachers and students?
Sure! It's free for teachers, so you can't get better value for your marketing dollars! Just make sure prospective students know they are contacting a business not an individual.
How do I add students to my studio?
Either copy the address for your profile page and send it to yours students in an email or have your students use the teacher search tool on the home page (they will need to be registered and logged in to complete the process). Once they find you, they will be able to click on “Send link request” and you will receive a notification to accept or reject them. For the security of minors, students are not searchable.
What if my teacher isn’t on LessonSpark?
You can still benefit by using the student tools yourself. Use the website to enter your own lesson notes, repertoire, and to track your progress through the practice diary. Invite your teacher to join so they can participate with you.
What’s the point of the practice diary?
The practice diary will help you and your teacher learn more about how you practice and how to practice more effectively. You’ll be able to see if you have developed any practice habits that should be changed or if there is anything you can do to practice more effectively. This should help you progress more quickly and feel more confident in your playing.
Can other people see my profile?
No. Only your teacher(s) can see your profile. All students’ images, profile information, and teacher communications are kept completely confidential for your privacy.
I take lessons on more than one instrument. Do I need multiple subscriptions?
No. You can track all of your music lessons in just one profile.
How do I link my profile to my teacher(s)?
First, make sure you are registered and logged in. On the home page, use the search function for your instrument and area. Once you find your teacher, click on “Send link request.” Your teacher will receive a notification that you are requesting to join their studio. If you can’t find your teacher, check with them to make sure they have their profile set to accept new students. If you study more than one instrument, you can link to additional teachers by repeating this process. We're working on a more direct way to link up and hope to roll that out really soon.
